Being a stay at home dad, the summer holidays are a bit of a relief because I don’t usually have to be in three places at once.
During term time, the kids finish school at slightly different times during the week.
Depending on the day, they could have an after school activity or a sports fixture.
At least once a term we also have a meeting after school about my daughter’s progress in school.
So potentially I might need to be on the sports pitch, at school pick up and at a school meeting all at the same time.
If Only I Had A Time Machine
Now that my daughter will be in Year 4, she’ll finish the school day at the same time as my son from September.
That’s a good thing because it means I won’t have to hang around so much or wait with one child for a while to pick up the other.
They get bored and look for mischief.
Sometimes I wish I had a time machine so I could travel back and forward and then I could be in three places at once.
The next problem I’ll have is when both my kids have sports fixtures and they’re away from home.
Or if they’re both at home, running between the matches to catch a glimpse of them may become cumbersome.
Going Back To Work
Another plus point of my daughter going into Year 4 is that both she and my son can stay at school until 6.30pm.
They can do activities, be supervised for their homework and then have an evening meal before being picked up.
It means when I decide to go back to work I should be able to work around school drop offs and pick ups.
Hopefully it’ll lessen the need to be in three places at once.
It’ll be a long day for the kids but it would mean more money coming in.
We’ve put back my looking for work until after next summer now though.
Depending on what happens over the course of the next year, we may end up finding ourselves no longer living in Scotland.
For the moment, there’s no point in me finding a job up here if that’s what happens.
Do You Ever Find Yourself Trying To Be In Three Places At Once?
I’m sure most parents have needed to be in multiple places at once.
How do you deal with it and does it ever have knock on consequences to your day?
