I have a small corner of our house that I spend quite a bit of my time in.
It’s my dad space.
Whilst it’s not much but it keeps me happy.
And it’s somewhere that I can escape to.
Yet still be close to to what’s going on with the rest of my family.
And it’s not the bathroom!
Somewhere To Call My Own
The kids have their bedrooms to call their own.
I don’t have a garage but my desk in the hallway is the next best thing.
And it’s way better than sitting out in the garden shed.
When all hell is breaking loose around me, I can retreat to my dad space.
I can put my headphones in and listen to some music.
When no-one else is home I sometimes crank up the volume and have a singalong!
Thankfully we live in a detached bungalow.
So no-one will hear me anyway.
Keep Stuff Tidy
As I’m at home, it’s my job to keep the house clean and tidy.
And I’m usually pretty good at it.
When it comes to keeping all my own stuff together, it’s not always so easy though.
At least with a compact dad space, I have to be minimal with how much stuff I retain.
Having a desk comes in handy.
Especially as it has a big drawer where I can hide all my clutter!
A Place To Get Online
A couple of years ago I bought myself an Alienware Aurora computer.
It was an expensive extravagance but I don’t regret it.
It takes pride of place in my dad space.
And it also means I can get online any time I want.
I like to browse the web on occasion.
It doesn’t take much brain function to do it and it’s relaxing.
My daughter loves to browse Amazon with me and add lots of stuff to her wishlist.
I love to look at Google Maps and Google Earth.
I find maps so interesting.
If I’m ever reincarnated I reckon I’ll be a cartographer.
My Alienware computer is a couple of years old now but it’s still pretty powerful.
It allows me to play the latest games.
Maybe not with the maximum specifications but I don’t mind that.
It’s got an intel core i7 processor on board as well as a nvidia GTX 760 TI.
The graphics card might need replacing in a few months time.
Although the nvidia 700 series are still well above the minimum specifications for many games coming out at the moment.
It’s become a hobby of mine and it gives me a focus other than my family.
Having a dad space means I can work uninterrupted most of the time.
I thought about buying a laptop and getting out and about to do some writing.
But I always find there’s too many distractions.
So having a desk in the hallway for getting on with some work is the best solutions for me.
Other than blogging and online gaming, my desk is also my family’s financial hub.
It’s where I sort out our finances with YNAB.
And I keep on top of the kids’ pocket money with Rooster Money.
Do You Have Your Own Dad Space?
We all need our own space.
Do you have somewhere in your home you can call your own?
What’s your dad space like?
